Workers, unions, and activist groups are set to demonstrate across Europe this Wednesday, 1st May, as people mark International Workers' Day - May Day - across the continent. Demonstrations are seen annually on May Day in European cities, but, with ongoing grievances linked to cost of living, low pay, and industry-specific issues (such as the recent farmers' protests), the number of, and attendances at, these protests could be higher than normal this year. Political activists and environmental groups may also take the opportunity to join the protests, with issues such as climate change and the Israel-Palestine conflict both causing frequent large-scale demonstrations across Europe recently - the Palestinian General Federation of Trade Unions has called on employees in the international trade union movement to take action in solidarity with Palestine by going on strike, for example. The demonstrations are likely to cause significant disruption to travel and business, while clashes could also occur, and should be planned for out of precaution. Protests are not just planned in capital cities, but across Europe, as demonstrated in the image below. UK: Suspected increase in marijuana production as Albanian groups use social media to recruit members. A probe by Express has highlighted efforts from UK-based Albanian crime groups to entice Albanian people to move to the UK and work in marijuana plantations, saying that they could earn between GBP 5,000 to 6,000 a month. Social media posts on Instagram and TikTok show large amounts of cocaine and industrial-scale marijuana production taking place in London, Manchester, Birmingham, Newcastle, Southampton, Leeds, and other UK cities. Multiple Instagram accounts that glorify the production of marijuana in the country have been found, while posts also feature guns and knives. The posts are believed to indicate a significant increase in the number of UK marijuana farms in operation. The National Crime Agency stated that they work with partners in the UK and around the world, including in Albania, to disrupt organised crime groups. Albanian organised crime gangs are believed to have become the number one producers of marijuana in the UK.
